In this unit, students will:

• Deconstruct the layout of a network and its devices,
• Access a personal network account with a username and password,
• Understand how networks can communicate and share data and information,
• Recognise the difference between a LAN and a WAN,
• Understand how important security protocols are to keeping data safe,
• Discuss the pros and cons of using computer networks.

Students will cover the following topics:

• How the school network operates,
• How to use a username and password to access a personal network account,
• How to share network resources,
• How to manage document files with folders,
• How to share data/information with other network users.

Assessments will take the form of:

• a formative evaluation of network skills,
• one question and answer assignment,
• one skills-strengthening test,
• screenshot evidence of file/folder management.
