This unit is a basic introduction to networking and how to access a personal user account for communicating and sharing data.
Course Information
Unit Objectives
In this unit, students will:
- Deconstruct the layout of a network and its devices,
- Access a personal network account with a username and password,
- Understand how networks can communicate and share data and information,
- Recognise the difference between a LAN and a WAN,
- Understand how important security protocols are to keeping data safe,
- Discuss the pros and cons of using computer networks.
Unit Topics
Students will cover the following topics:
- How the school network operates,
- How to use a username and password to access a personal network account,
- How to share network resources,
- How to manage document files with folders,
- How to share data/information with other network users.
Unit Assessment
Assessments will take the form of:
- a formative evaluation of network skills,
- one question and answer assignment,
- one skills-strengthening test,
- screenshot evidence of file/folder management.
